Standard vs AI Voice on Listeny
Listeny offers two ways to hear your text. Pick the mode that fits your privacy preferences, language needs, and audio quality expectations.
Standard mode
In Standard mode, text and PDFs are processed entirely in your browser. Your files are not uploaded to Listeny servers.
Standard uses voices already installed on your device, which often includes multiple languages. Playback starts immediately with no network round trip for synthesis.
AI Voice mode
If you choose AI Voice or download an MP3, only the text needed to synthesize audio is sent to our secure speech proxy. That text is used to generate audio and is not stored on Listeny servers.
AI Voice uses Microsoft neural English voices and supports MP3 download for offline listening. Use it when you want a more natural tone for long English articles or PDFs.
Which should I use?
- Privacy-first or non-English content: Standard.
- English neural quality or MP3 export: AI Voice.
- Unsure: Try Standard first; switch voices in the player anytime.
