Is Listeny free? +
Yes. Listeny is free to use with no sign-up, subscription, or usage caps. We may show ads to help cover hosting costs; the reading tools stay free.
Do I need an account? +
No. Open any tool page, paste text or upload a PDF, and press play. There is no login or email required.
Is my text or PDF uploaded to your servers? +
In Standard mode, text and PDFs are processed entirely in your browser. Your files are not uploaded to Listeny servers. If you choose AI Voice or download an MP3, only the text needed to synthesize audio is sent to our secure speech proxy. That text is used to generate audio and is not stored on Listeny servers. Voice, speed, theme, and reading progress are saved in your browser’s local storage on your device — not on our servers.
Are PDF files uploaded? +
PDF text extraction happens in your browser — the PDF file itself is not uploaded. If you choose AI Voice or download an MP3, only the text needed to synthesize audio is sent to our secure speech proxy. That text is used to generate audio and is not stored on Listeny servers.
What is the difference between Standard and AI Voice? +
Standard uses voices built into your browser and keeps processing on your device. AI Voice uses Microsoft neural voices through a secure proxy and supports MP3 download; only synthesis text is sent, not your PDF file.
